About this site
Dear reader,
justtheconstitution.org presents the full text of the United States Constitution and its twenty-seven amendments alongside facsimiles of the original parchment. No ads. No commentary. No paywall. Just the founding document, readable and free.
Everyone is welcome. This site is built for students, educators, researchers, or anyone else who wants to read the document that defines American governance.
This site is built and maintained by one person: me. I wanted to make the Constitution a bigger part of American daily life… so I built a version that’s easy to read, cite, or share on any device. It is self-funded and free for everyone.
The site is in beta ahead of a full release on Constitution Day, September 17, 2026. If something is wrong or missing, the contact form below reaches me directly.
Sincerely,
D

Support on Ko-fiFrequently Asked Questions
What is this site?
A free, ad-free reading experience for the US Constitution. The full text with the original parchment scans displayed side by side.
Includes modern quality-of-life features such as search, reader mode, light/dark mode support, customizable settings, and keyboard shortcuts.
Where does the text come from?
Articles I–VII and signatures are transcribed from the National Archives, preserving original spelling and punctuation. Amendments I–XXVII come from the National Constitution Center. Both sources were compared; no discrepancies were found.
Is this an official government website?
No. This is an independent project. The text and images are sourced from official government archives but this site is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency.
Can I download the text?
Yes. A Markdown download is available at the bottom of the reading page. It contains the complete document including all amendments.
Why is the spelling unusual?
The original 1787 document uses 18th-century English spelling and capitalization. We preserve it exactly as inscribed by Jacob Shallus on the parchment.
Why is Spanish supported? What about other languages?
Soy bilingüe y hablo español. La Constitución rige y protege a todos, sin importar el idioma que hablen. El texto en español de la Constitución en este sitio es la traducción publicada por los Archivos Nacionales de los EE. UU., enlazada a continuación.
Mi ambición es ampliar la lista de idiomas disponibles con la ayuda de hablantes nativos.
How do I cite this?
Use the copy button on any paragraph to get a formatted citation in Bluebook, MLA, Chicago, Markdown, BibTeX, or plain text. The citation engine generates the reference automatically.
In the reader, use the settings (gear icon or shortcut key [,]) to select your preferred citation style.
